Pediatric Exercise Guidelines
Youth
At least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) per day for youth (all children between 6-18 years)
• Moderate-to-vigorous aerobic activity
• Muscle and bone strengthening activities
Shorter durations (minimum 75 min/week) of vigorous-intensity or interval training may be sufficient for younger and more physically fit individuals
Youth with type 1 diabetes are encouraged to meet the same physical activity goals as youth in general (without diabetes)
Limit amount of time spent sedentary, particularly amount of recreational screen time
Adult Exercise Guidelines
Adults
At least 150 minutes per week or 30 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) per day for adults
• Resistance exercise 2–3 times per week on nonconsecutive days
Shorter durations (minimum 75 mins/week) of vigorous-intensity or interval training may be sufficient for younger and more physically fit individuals
No more than 2 consecutive days without exercise
All adults, and particularly those with type 2 diabetes, should decrease the amount of time spent in daily sedentary behavior
